Using the right Poke Ball depending on the wild Pokemon’s level or the player’s surroundings will make it easier to catch them. Trainers hoping to have the entire Poke Ball inventory will need to work on the story questline: Victory Road. The more gym badges the player character has, the more Poke Balls that become available at the Poke Centers. Here’s how to get them all.

Every Poke Ball Type & What They Do
At the start of Scarlet & Violet, players will only be able to purchase the standard Poke Ball from the store counter at Pokemon Centers. These cost 200 PokeDollars a piece. Despite this, players can still pick up Poke Balls with higher catch rates in the wild. They just won’t be available to buy until a set amount of gym badges are earned.
Additionally, various Poke Balls can be earned from reaching Pokedex Completion milestones. Some Poke Balls, such as the Dream Ball, are only obtainable through Dex Completion. To access Pokedex Completion milestones, do the following:
Press (-). Select Pokedex. Press X-button to receive any rewards.
As the name implies, Pokedex milestones are gained from catching a set amount of Pokemon and unlocking volumes, or completed entries. A reward is given to the player for every 10 volumes completed. For example, at 240 caught Pokemon, players will receive a Fast Ball.

Catching Tips
As experienced players will know, the best way to catch a Pokemon is to weaken it in battle. Understanding the wild Pokemon’s Typing and what it’s weak against can work in a trainer’s favor. If a player’s Pokemon is able to inflict a status ailment such as Paralysis or Sleep, it will increase the chances of catching the wild Pokemon. These factors will stack on the effects of the Poke Ball using to catch the wild Pokemon.
Some Pokemon have moves like Roar or Whirlwind that will force the player out of battle. To prevent this from happening, have a Pokemon with a higher Speed than the opponent, and use Taunt. This is a Dark-type move that will prevent the opponent from using non-damaging moves. Another way to avoid being kicked out by Roar or Whirlwind is to have a Pokemon with an Ability like Suction Cups.
Pokemon Scarlet & Pokemon Violet are available now for Nintendo Switch.
