Pokemon Puzzle League is a rather overlooked but beloved Pokemon spin-off game on the Nintendo 64, which was developed and released when the Pokemon anime series was at its peak in the early 2000s. This is evident with the game featuring Pokemon Trainers primarily from the anime series, with Ash Ketchum in the starring role in the single-player mode. Players will soon be able to re-experience this nostalgic spin-off when it arrives for the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack service next week.

Nintendo revealed this Pokemon spin-off in a recent trailer, showing Ash embarking on his journey to become a Puzzle League Master. Like other puzzle games like Panel de Pon or Tetris, this game requires the player to match shapes in order to remove the blocks. The game however also features modes in both a 2D and 3D space, which can be a challenge for new players.

Pokemon Puzzle League also has a multiplayer mode, which pits two players against each other in three different game modes: marathon, timed, and spa service. These games also have a 2D or 3D puzzle mode to really challenge players. Like other games on the NSO service, this multiplayer mode can also be played online. The trailer ends off with the release date on NSO, July 15.

This is the second time Pokemon Puzzle League has been re-released, the last one being the Wii’s virtual console release in 2008. This game is also exclusive to North America and European subscribers, with Japanese users being able to play the first two Custom Robo games on N64. Some fans were happy to see this spin-off come onto the service, while others were displeased at this addition and wished for other games to come to NSO such as Pokemon Stadium.

Pokemon Puzzle League will be available on July 15 for Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack subscribers.
