RELATED: Pokemon Legends: Arceus - The Best Ghost-Type Pokemon (& Where to Find Them)

While previous games have enabled players to simply use their existing knowledge, the Hisui Pokedex has seen quite a few cuts. As a result, the best Rock-types in Pokemon Legends: Arceus are a little different from the ones in other Pokemon games, with one or two unlikely candidates making the cut.

5 Probopass

Probopass is a Rock / Steel-type Pokemon, which explains why it has such monstrously high defensive stats. It does have three major weaknesses (Fighting, Ground, and Water), but, when up against just about anything else, it’s never at risk of being knocked out quickly. This bodes well, as Probopass’ Speed and attacking stats are all on the low side, meaning that it needs time to dish out any substantial amount of damage. With access to moves like Power Gem and Flash Cannon though, it is much better equipped than most other sturdy Pokemon, at least in the offensive department, anyway. Probopass is best with a Sassy nature.

How to Get Probopass in Pokemon Legends: Arceus

There’s an Alpha Probopass in the Primeval Grotto area of the Coronet Highlands. Players can also find its unevolved form Nosepass there, as well as in the Celestica Ruins area of the same region. Nosepass can be evolved into Probopass simply by taking it to the Coronet Highlands region or by using a Thunder Stone on it. Those in need of a Thunder Stone can trade one for Merit Points at the exchange counter in Jubilife Village, dig one up with Ursaluna, or find one on the ground inside a space-time distortion.

4 Kleavor

Kleavor is a Bug / Rock-type Pokemon and one of several new evolutions introduced in Pokemon Legends: Arceus. It’s a fairly well-rounded Pokemon when it comes to weaknesses and resistances, with very few of either for players to concern themselves with. Stat-wise, it can hit pretty hard and is no slouch in the Speed department either, though it will struggle against top-tier Special attackers due to its mediocre Special Defense stat. Kleavor is best with an Adamant nature.

How to Get Kleavor in Pokemon Legends: Arceus

In order to get Kleavor, players will need to evolve a Scyther by using a piece of Black Augurite. This rare evolution item is sometimes dropped by Graveler and can also be dug up using Ursaluna. Players can find Scyther in the Grandtree Arena area of the Obsidian Fieldlands as well as in the Primeval Grotto area of the Coronet Highlands.

3 Rhyperior

Rhyperior offers both brawn and bulk thanks to its impressive physical stats. Being a Ground / Rock-type Pokemon, it does have a lot of big weaknesses for players to worry about, including both Water and Grass-type attacks. Of course, this type combination does have its strengths as well as its weaknesses, with Rhyperior able to stand up to powerful Normal, Poison, and Electric-type physical attackers with relative ease. To get the very best out of Rhyperior though, players should try to find one with a Brave nature.

How to Get Rhyperior in Pokemon Legends: Arceus

Players can catch an Alpha Rhyperior in the Sacred Plaza area of the Coronet Highlands. Its unevolved forms Rhyhorn and Rhydon can also be found there, as well as in the Celestica Trail area of the same region. Rhyhorn evolves into Rhydon at Level 42 and Rhydon evolves into Rhyperior when exposed to a Protector; a special evolution item that can be found in space-time distortions, dug up with Ursaluna, or traded for Merit Points at the item exchange counter in Jubilife Village.

2 Hisuian Avalugg

When it comes to being both sturdy and hard-hitting, few can compete with Hisuian Avalugg. The Ice / Rock-type has a ridiculously high Defense stat and can hit like a ton of bricks to boot. Granted, it’s not much use against Special attackers, but, against its fellow physically-inclined peers, the new regional Pokemon variant is likely to come out on top more often than not. It is incredibly weak to both Steel and Fighting-types, however, which does hold it back quite a bit. Even so, with an Impish nature, Hisuian Avalugg will make a fine addition to just about any team.

How to Get Hisuian Avalugg in Pokemon Legends: Arceus

Players can find Hisuian Avalugg in the Avalugg’s Legacy Area of the Alabaster Icelands. Its unevolved form Bergmite can also be found there, as well as in the Glacier Terrace area of the same region. Bergmite evolves into Avalugg at Level 37.

1 Hisuian Arcanine

As well as being one of the best Fire-types in Pokemon Legends: Arceus, Hisuian Arcanine also leads the way when it comes to Rock-types as well. The newly introduced Fire / Rock-type variant boasts a lot of great resistances, while its base stat distribution allows it to hit hard with both physical and special attacks. It’s also a reasonably fast Pokemon when compared to most of its Rock-type peers, meaning that it actually stands a pretty decent chance of acting first every once in a while. Players should look for one with a Lonely nature, which will increase its Attack stat at the expense of a little Defense.

How to Get Hisuian Arcanine in Pokemon Legends: Arceus

Hisuian Arcanine evolves from Hisuian Growlithe after being exposed to a Fire Stone. Players can get a Fire Stone at the Item Exchange in Jubilife Village, inside a space-time distortion, or by digging one up with Ursaluna. Hisuian Growlite can be found in the Windbreak Stand and Veilstone Cape areas of the Cobalt Coastlands.
