There are about 80 different Legendary and Mythical Pokemon found throughout the franchise. Not all of these titans can be encountered in Pokemon Legends: Arceus, but the ones that do appear command attention and respect, particularly the titular Arceus.

Legendary and Mythical Pokemon are some of the most powerful creatures in the world of Pokemon, and they’re also some of the rarest. Many of them appear to be a single individual rather than a species and they are often linked to specific locations, elements, and even concepts. Some gamers may have been confused about how–and why–beings that can control time, space, and reality itself would come to accompany preteens on their Pokemon journeys. Redditor 4amaroni thinks that Pokemon Legends: Arceus provides an answer to this question.

According to 4amaroni, the reason that godlike incarnations of nature’s might like Arceus, Palkia, Dialga, and even the intimidating Giratina might join up with a random trainer is simple: Legendary and Mythical Pokemon are immortal. In other words, these titans can afford to spend a few decades following around a human who earned their respect–to a human, that might seem like a lot of time, but it’s only the blink of an eye to them. They get to take a bit of a fun vacation in a Poke Ball and then go back to whatever they were doing after their trainer passes away.

Reportedly, Cogita addresses this in the post-game when the player catches the dual-type Fairy/Flying Legendary Pokemon Enamorus. She states that she’ll leave Enamorus in the player’s care for now, and reminds the player that even they can’t expect to live forever. The implication appears to be that Legendary and Mythical Pokemon will simply release themselves after the player dies. Some Pokemon like Celebi, Mew, and Dialga are even able to control the flow of time, which suggests that they can simply return to the exact moment they were captured and pick up where they left off.
