The idea behind Pokemon Home is sound: a cloud service linked to the Switch and to a player’s mobile phone that allows Pokemon to be moved from games to the cloud and then to other games. At the moment, Pokemon can only be moved back and forth from Pokemon Sword and Shield, although they can be moved into the cloud from Pokemon: Let’s Go Pikachu! and Let’s Go Evee! easily enough, and even from older 3DS games via the Pokemon Bank service.

However, the cloud service has run into severe problems, with several glitches and error messages plaguing players trying to transfer their Pokemon. Many attempting to trade Pokemon through the new Wonder Box feature find their copy of Sword or Shield crashing after the trade animation becomes stuck on a loop. More disturbing is the fact that after the game comes back online, all of its online functions, from trading to battle to the Wild Zone, seem to be knocked out.

Another serious error plaguing players takes the form of Pokemon Home’s “Error 992.” The error seems to take place when a player attempts to transfer a large Pokemon collection into Pokemon Home, often from Pokemon Bank, and the entire Pokemon collection vanishes into nothing. The obvious solution is to transfer Pokemon in smaller groups, but for many users who attempted to use the new service before the issue became well known, it seems to be too little, too late.

As of yet, there have been very few responses from The Pokemon Company or Nintendo, at least not in a satisfactory manner. The latest update for troubleshooting Pokemon Home on a mobile device on the official Pokemon Company website was mostly to address a minor login issue players were experiencing, which has likely done little to soothe players who paid for premium access to Pokemon Bank only to have their old collections vanish.

Since the launch of Pokemon Home is still very recent, it is probably safe to assume that solutions to these problems are not too far off in the future. Until then, however, it may be wise to approach Pokemon Home and its goofy professor with a healthy amount of caution.
