In order to use Pokemon HOME, a Nintendo Account needs to be linked. There’s an option to choose between the Basic Plan and the Premium Plan upon signing up. A full year of the Premium Plan is $15.99. If players just need one box (i.e: 30 Pokemon) and are not transferring from Pokemon Bank, then they can stick to the Basic Plan. Fortunately for some, releasing a Pokemon can be done without the Premium Plan.

How to Release Pokemon on Switch
On the Nintendo Switch, it’s possible to choose between different Pokemon files and access their storage system in Pokemon HOME. As of right now, the following games are compatible with HOME:
Pokemon Bank Pokemon GO Pokemon: Let’s Go, Pikachu!/Let’s Go, Eevee! Pokemon Sword/Shield Pokemon Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl Pokemon Legends: Arceus
Select a User to switch between different files/PCs. There will be two storage boxes visible: Pokemon HOME’s Box, and the Pokemon game of the player’s choosing (ex: Brilliant Diamond, Sword). If players don’t have the Premium Plan, they’ll only have one PC Box for HOME.
To release a Pokemon, do the following:
Press ZR or ZL to change “selection modes. " The red selection allows players to click on a Pokemon and view their summary, etc. Select a Pokemon and scroll down to “Release. " HOME will then ask if players want to release “just [this Pokemon]” or if they want to release more. If releasing more than one, answer “Yes” and it’ll allow players to select other Pokemon for Release. Players will know a Pokemon is selected by the “Checkmark” by the Pokemon’s head. Press (+) on the controller to “Release All. " Before closing out of the storage, press (+) again to “Save Progress. "
How to Release Pokemon on Mobile
In order for Pokemon HOME to work on mobile, players need to link their Nintendo Account. Log in to the Nintendo Account on Pokemon HOME, and make sure the Support ID number on the mobile version matches with the ID number on Pokemon HOME’s title screen on the Switch. This ID is displayed in the top-left corner.
With this finished, players can access their storage box in Pokemon HOME, but not other Pokemon games. Meaning if players are trying to release Pokemon from Legends: Arceus, they’ll have to do so on the Switch version instead.
To release Pokemon in the mobile version of Pokemon HOME, follow these steps:
Tap the title screen to go into “Your Room. " On the top right, there’s a label called “Pokemon. " Click on this to access HOME’s storage. Hold down on a Pokemon until a checkmark box appears next to the selected Pokemon. Tap other Pokemon if releasing more than one. At the bottom-left of the screen is a circle with three dots. Select it, and then select “Release all selected Pokemon. "
Pokemon HOME is available to download for the Nintendo Switch and Mobile devices.
