Trainers who are interested in leveling up their Pokemon GO PvP skills and climbing the ranks of each League level have to make sure that they are bringing the right roster of Pokemon to each battle. Every tier has its own distinct metagame, but the Great League is probably the most popular, and most important tier to master.

Luckily, the power users at Pokemon GO Hub have compiled a ton of data about League results and reported on the most dominant Pokemon roster choices in the current Great League metagame. Keep in mind that every roster needs Pokemon that serve different purposes. There are openers who are strong starts for a match, closers who are strong when opponents have no shields remaining, defenders, and attacks.
Openers/Leads
Skarmory
Deoxys (Defense)
Altaria
Closers
Azumarill
Venusaur
Umbreon
Defenders
Lanturn
Forretress
Vigoroth
Attackers
Bastiodon
Medicham
Swampert
Players should consider having strong, powered up versions of each of these Pokemon with the appropriate move sets. Trainers who haven’t caught them all just yet shouldn’t stress though. As long as some combination of those choices are available players should be able to form a strong roster to get started in the Great League ladder climb.
For now, players may want to keep hunting down the best Unova Pokemon in the game if improving their Battle Raid rosters is their primary goal. Be sure to check back in the near future for more Pokemon GO strategy guides, news, and updates. Until then, good luck out there, trainers!
