When Pokemon GO added Meltan, players were given multiple ways to catch the elusive Steel-type Pokemon. One way was to complete the Let’s Go Meltan Special Research, while another method involved connecting Pokemon GO and the Let’s Go games to get a special Mystery Box. Now it seems that something similar is going to be done with the newly-revealed Gimmighoul Pokemon, though so far the only way to catch it will be by connecting Pokemon GO with Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. No Meltan-style Special Research task has been confirmed for Gimmighoul at the time of this writing.
How to Catch Gimmighoul in Pokemon GO
According to Niantic, to catch Gimmighoul in Pokemon GO, players will need to connect the game to Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, a feature that won’t be available until an undetermined point in 2023. Whenever Pokemon GO connectivity with Scarlet and Violet is activated, players will be able to link the games and catch the Roaming Form of Gimmighoul. And unless Niantic announces plans to make Gimmighoul available in some other way that has yet to be announced, this will be the only way for Pokemon GO players to catch Gimmighoul.

Gimmighoul will also be featured in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet when the games launch on November 18. However, the version of Gimmighoul featured in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will be different from the Roaming Version that players can catch in Pokemon GO. Gimmighoul in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will be in its Chest Form. Scarlet and Violet players will also be able to see the Roaming Form of Gimmighoul while exploring the open world Paldea region, but they won’t be able to add it to their collection.
Pokemon GO completionists that pride themselves on fully completing the Pokedex may be disappointed that they have to purchase Pokemon Scarlet and Violet to get Gimmighoul, but anyone that hardcore about POGO was likely going to buy the new main series games anyway. It’s also possible that Niantic will eventually give players some other way of catching Gimmighoul in Pokemon GO, so fans should keep that in mind as well.
Pokemon GO is available now for iOS and Android mobile devices.
