This time around Giratina is back to help celebrate the introduction to the spooky scary Halloween season in Pokemon GO and it will be featured in Battle Raids now through October 23. That gives players a few weeks to battle against the iconic Battle Raid boss with their friends either in person or using Remote Raid Passes.

Giratina is a powerful Pokemon, but luckily it has a lot of weaknesses, as well. The Legendary is weak to Dark, Dragon, Fairy, Ghost, and Ice. That means that plenty of popular Battle Raid counters will be relevant for this fight and, hopefully, experienced raiders won’t need to spend many resources at all in order to prepare a powerful roster.

One change this time around is access to Mega Evolved Pokemon. Mega Houndoom is a great choice for this Raid and if players have the resources to spare, then burning through some Mega Candy for a few of these Raids would be well worth it. Obviously the Battle Raid is still totally winable without any Mega Evolved Pokemon though, so no worries if that isn’t an option. Instead, players will just want to stick with some of the most reliable Dark and Dragon types that they have powered up.

Best Origin Forme Giratina Counters

Houndoom (Mega) Snarl/Foul Play

Rayquaza - Dragon Tail/Outrage

Palkia - Dragon Tail/Draco Meteor

Dragonite - Dragon Tail/Outrage

Salamence - Dragon Tail/Draco Meteor

Dialga - Dragon Breath/Draco Meteor

Those are the top picks for this fight, but there are lots of other great choices as well. Other acceptable and strong choices include Tyranitar, Weavile, Mewtwo, Latios, and even Gengar. Thanks to Giratina’s long list of weaknesses, there should be no shortage of counter options for players to select from as they prepare their rosters for this fight.

For now, Pokemon GO trainers should be able to head out into the world (or play from home) and continue catching the best Unova Pokemon in the game and getting closer to that complete Pokedex. Check back for more Pokemon GO updates closer to the event. Until then, good luck out there, trainers!
