As reported by Pokemon GO Hub, Niantic’s latest newsletter teases a special event starting Tuesday, April 10 that will focus on Kanto region (generation 1) Pokemon. Unfortunately, the newsletter doesn’t clarify what this special event will entail exactly, but we have some guesses.
One possibility is that this event will simply mean that more gen 1 Pokemon will spawn in the game than gen 2 or 3. While this could mean that we will see the population of Pidgeys and Rattatas return to their past highs, it could also give players a chance at catching some of the rarer gen 1 Pokemon in the game.
Another possibility is that this event will finally see some of the region-exclusive Pokemon become available in other parts of the world. After all, with Mew added to the game, Pokemon GO players are now technically able to complete the Kanto region Pokedex, but may be unable to travel to other countries to catch the likes of Kangaskhan and Mr. Mime. This could allow fans to complete their Pokedex without having to break the bank traveling the world in search of Pokemon.
Whatever the Kanto region event is in Pokemon GO, we should learn over the course of the next few days. In the newsletter, Niantic suggests that more information will be shared on the game’s official website and social media channels, so fans should keep an eye out.
Pokemon GO is available now for iOS and Android mobile devices.
