June 1 will bring some other changes to the Field Research in Pokemon GO as well. The game will be adding new tasks that will focus on water-type Pokemon, with Niantic specifically singling out Seel, Kingler, and Horsea. So once June 1 rolls around, Pokemon GO fans should be able to greatly expand their collection of water-type Pokemon on top of adding Articuno to their collection.
Since Moltres was added as the first Field Research breakthrough Pokemon and was swapped for Zapdos at the beginning of May, it was expected that Articuno would be next in line. Assuming Niantic keeps this pattern up, it’s reasonable to assume that the second generation legendary beasts will follow in July, August, and September.
June is already shaping up to be a big month for Pokemon GO players. Not only will players have new Field Research tasks to complete and the opportunity to catch Articuno, but they have a new Community Day event to look forward to as well. For a three hour period on Saturday, June 16, Larvitar will appear much more frequently than usual. Players that evolve Larvitar all the way to Tyranitar during the Community Day time period will also unlock an exclusive move.
Besides these already-announced events, Pokemon GO fans may also be able to expect some surprises as well. Niantic seems to have been hosting in-game events a lot more frequently than usual, with a fighting-type event taking place earlier this month, which was preceded by an event that focused on Kanto region Pokemon. Considering this, it’s not out of the question that June may have some other in-game events of its own.
Beyond June, Pokemon GO fans have the game’s second anniversary to look forward to, which could very well mark the game’s biggest event of the year. Before then, though, players will have the addition of Articuno and the Larvitar Community Day to keep them busy.
Pokemon GO is available now for iOS and Android mobile devices.
