After the update, players can now enjoy “cutting-edge” 8-bit graphics when accessing the Pokedex and the Nearby Pokemon screen in Pokemon GO. According to the Pokemon GO website, these 8-bit graphics are not the type found in old-school Pokemon games though; the 8-bit graphics in Pokemon GO are approximately twice the definition of 4K where “the chunky squares of each pixel provide realistic detail and unbelievable definition.” This feature is applied to all Pokemon in the game and it will hopefully increase the game’s immersive quality for old-school players by giving them the feeling of holding a real-life version of the classic games’ Pokedex in the palms of their hands.
Below are some screen shots of the cutting-edge 8-bit graphics engine in Pokemon GO:
From the screenshots it is evident that the 8-bit feature certainly adds that classic Pokemon game feeling that Pokemon GO has been missing up to this point. Some players may feel, however, that the 8-bit graphics are out of place considering the fact that everything else in the game uses a different art style.
The Pokemon GO development team is encouraging players’ feedback of this new feature though and trainers can let them know what they think by using the #PokemonGO tag on all social media platforms. There is no indication that Pokemon GO will get rid of this feature if players do not enjoy it, but it is good to know that they are considering fan feedback on updates, even ones that are apparently meant as April Fools’ Day jokes.
Pokemon GO is available now on Android and iOS.
