Etika was filled with high energy and had a unique ability to make his fans laugh. In June of 2019, he went missing after posting a YouTube video that many interpreted as a suicide note.  Etika had a massive fan base. After almost every big Nintendo announcement there can often be found a comment on social media mentioning how Etika would be excited with this specific reveal.

Etika was found dead six days after going missing. A mural was erected in his honor in NYC. Once the life-like painting was created, a campaign was created to the Pokemon GO community to get the memorial in the game as a PokeStop. This has now been accomplished, as the mural is now in the game and can be visited to earn items and catch Pokemon.

Other petitions have been started in Etika’s honor. Nearly two million people agreed that Etika should be buried at YouTube’s headquarters, proving that he has a massive group of fans. Etika will continue to be missed and placing him in Pokemon GO is a touching way to continue his memory.

Just like players can travel the world in Pokemon GO, they will be able to visit the mural in NYC. Pokefest takes place every year in Chigaco, and Niantic has continued to create real-world events. When Pokemon GO first came out in 2016, players naturally grouped up at gyms, Pokestops, and various locations to catch Pokemon and snag items, and these planned events by Niantic are a great way to cultivate that comradery among the fans.

There will be another event in Philidelphia, PA in May that will again give fans the opportunity to join together and enjoy the game in exciting ways. The Safari Zone event will take place in Fairmont Park, which is only a couple hour drive away from New York City. So anyone considering going to the event in Philadelphia in May that wants to take a day trip to NYC as well, consider visiting the Etika mural and making a quick Pokestop as well.
