Pokemon’s Johto region has been a hot topic recently for Pokemon GO, as Niantic announced 2022’s Pokemon GO Tour will highlight the region, which was introduced in Pokemon Gold and Silver. The event, a follow-up to last year’s focusing on the inaugural Pokemon games, will feature increased encounter rates and shiny rates for several popular creatures from the long-running series’ second generation and encourage trading between players for exclusive Pokemon based on which version a player chooses....

Team Rocket GO was added to Pokemon GO last year, with Team Rocket grunts taking over PokeStops and even Team Rocket leader Giovanni making an appearance as a Special Research opponent. However, the iconic duo has been notably absent, so fans may be glad to know that will likely change in the future. Developer Niantic shared details about what exactly the Ed Sheeran collab will entail via the official Pokemon GO website. While there will be no entirely new additions to the game, Sheeran’s apparent love of Water Pokemon (the website says that he always picks the Water type starter in the Pokemon games) has led to Niantic deciding to give players another opportunity to capture a unique type of Squirtle. For those who might not have seen it already, there is a new glitch in Pokémon GO that lets players put an egg into a gym. Normally a gym can only hold one Pokémon of the player’s choosing (and a handful from different players), but somehow some players have discovered a way to put eggs in gyms instead. What makes this so problematic is that eggs in Pokémon GO are obviously not Pokémon – they are not designed to fight so they don’t have a move-set and they don’t have any CP....

The new Pokemon GO update was released yesterday and includes a handful of new features. The main addition is that it improves the search functionality on the Pokemon Collection screen. The two new search terms available to players are ‘Legendary’ and ‘Defender.’ Legendary, of course, will show players all of their legendary Pokemon, while typing in Defender will show players which Pokemon of theirs are defending Gyms. Another useful change means that items received from spinning Gym PokeStops and taking part in raid battles are now listed in the Journal....

How Ditto Works Ditto is known for its ability to transform into any Pokemon it fights, and Niantic has decided to use that ability to make capturing in Pokemon GO a challenge. Rather than appearing on the map like any other Pokemon for trainers to click on and then attempt to catch, Ditto is instead masquerading as other Pokemon entirely. According to multiple reports, Ditto appears on the world map as a low-tier common Pokemon, such as Magikarp, Pidgey, Rattata, or Zubat....

To mark this special Kalos Celebration, Niantic is also giving Trainers in Pokemon GO the opportunity to complete a new set of unique Timed Research tasks, and special event-exclusive Field Research, all of which lead to Kalos encounters and valuable Mega Energy rewards. As expected, there will be a special ticketed research storyline for players who want to trade $1 to earn some extra rewards during today’s Pokemon GO festivities. The tasks are about as simple as they can get and basically just require doing things that most players would already do during a Community Day anyway. As Jessica was in the middle of delivering Ireland Sage Theriot into the world, Jonathan was alerted to a wild Pidgey in the room. The flying-type Pokemon was spotted on Jessica’s hospital bed, and was successfully captured by Jonathan - after he took the time to screenshot the moment to share with Reddit, of course. Some have criticized Jonathan for playing Pokemon Go while his wife was in labor, but apparently Jessica wasn’t upset....

The announcement was made via Niantic’s support page, though a Niantic employee elaborated with a few additional details about the Gym closings. Reddit user NianticGeorge, who’s a verified Niantic representative, explained that Niantic isn’t yet closing the Pokemon GO Gyms, but wanted to give a heads up so players know it’s coming. NianticGeorge said: Unfortunately, neither Niantic nor NianticGeorge provided any information on what exactly the Gym remodels will be, or how long it will take to complete....

Spotlight Hour in Pokemon GO is a new event that doesn’t quite have a predictable formula just yet. This will be the third of the new Spotlight Hours and should offer increased spawns in your local area for both general Pokemon native to that area and one particular Pokemon (so far Onix and Spoink have been featured). Specifically, players that finish the National Pokedex in Pokemon Home will be awarded an Original Color Magearna. For the uninitiated, Original Color Magearna is a unique form of Generation 7’s Magearna that has been colored gold and red. While Original Color Magearna has appeared in the Pokemon anime previously, it is not currently obtainable in any of the games, which means that many players are sure to be excited about bringing home this reward....

More Alpha Pokemon will start spawning once the Noble Pokemon of their respective region are calmed. Aside from their large size, Alpha Pokemon will have three out of five of their Stats at level 3 upon capture and are usually a much higher level than other Pokemon in the area. While Pokemon Legends: Arceus’ Requests vary in difficulty, they’re not impossible to complete. Some may take longer than others, but those that do are usually linked to a Legendary Pokemon. Unfortunately, Request 35 doesn’t involve Legendaries, but it’s one Request that can help players complete a few research tasks for Pachirisu and Ursaring. Request 75 is the final task in a line of side quests given by the Diamond Clan’s warden, Arezu. Helping Arezu for the third time will unlock every hairstyle and hair dye in Pokemon Legends: Arceus. Her Requests involve showing her a certain Pokemon, so it’s not too difficult for players once they know where to look. Twitter user Onion_mu recently posted a Pokemon Legends: Arceus clip in which they ran circles around Pearl Clan Leader Irida. As the player ran circles around the Pokemon Legends: Arceus NPC, things in the background started to grow steadily larger and even began clipping through other NPCs. By the end of Onion_mu’s clip, the objects, which are apparently tent flaps, took up a sizable majority of the screen, though the open area around them still remains mostly untouched....

Jubilife Village in Pokemon Legends: Arceus has quickly become a hotspot for references both within the wider Pokemon series, as well as smaller easter eggs placed around by Game Freak. This has led to some players looking at key aspects of the village and the game’s story, such as the Survey Corps that the player joins, as references to all sorts of media, including Attack on Titan. Alolan Pokemon were first announced for Pokemon GO last week, and Niantic has now made at least one Alolan Pokemon go live in the game. Players should now be seeing Alolan Exeggutor appearing out in the wild, and it seems as though the creature is fairly common. From our own testing, we’ve seen at least one Alolan Exeggutor at most of the PokeStops we’ve visited. Alolan Exeggutor appears to have been added specifically to celebrate the announcement of Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu and Let’s Go Eevee, which will feature Pokemon GO integration as previously rumored....

According to the description of the unfilled position at Niantic, those that apply will be expected to “build intuitive and beautiful web applications that let millions of users view and submit data on the world’s most interesting locations.” Of course, while the developer has multiple games that make use of real world locations, the explanation of the new full stack web engineer’s duties at least alludes to Niantic working on a system related to player-submitted PokeStops and Gyms in Pokemon GO, but stops just short of confirming it....
