To celebrate the newcomers, Pokemon GO is holding a small, in-game event, of sorts. Currently, every time a trainer hatches an egg, the egg will feature a Pokemon from the Hoenn region. According to damangood, he received an EX Raid invite to a Mewtwo raid taking place on Christmas day, December 25. Unfortunately, the EX Raid is in a Sprint store at the Eden Prairie Center mall in Minnesota, which will be closed for the holidays. And since players that have already received EX Raid invites are less likely to get one in the future, this means damangood may very well be missing out on one of his only chances to catch Mewtwo....

Australia and New Zealand are set to be part of Niantic’s Pokemon GO field tests, and those two countries will be the first Western locations to get its hands on an in-development version of the upcoming augmented-reality Pokemon game. For those interested in catching a wild Ivysaur in the middle of the Australian outback, or a Charizard in the picturesque New Zealand mountains, sign up at Niantic’s website. To be eligible, fans must reside in Australia or New Zealand, and have an iOS or Android device....

Celebrating the success of Pokemon GO Fest 2020, Niantic revealed that ‘millions’ of trainers took part in the event, and in doing so participants walked a very long way, traveling an average of 15 kilometers each. In addition, players defeated over 58 million members of the nefarious Team Rocket, and sent 55 million gifts to other trainers. The event also raised more than $10 million, which will be used by Niantic to fund Black gaming and augmented reality creators and developers, supporting the Black community following recent events and protests....

The Pokemon GO Fest event takes place next month at Grant Park in Chicago, Illinois, and a permit application with the Chicago Park District has uncovered more information about the event. This includes plans for an “ultimate gym” which will make use of the Petrillo Music Shell, an outdoor amphitheater with seating. The exact capacity of the area is unclear, but as Pokemon GO Fest tickets sold out in 30 minutes and the permit application suggests up to 20,000 attendees could show up, Niantic will want to put out extra chairs just in case....

When playing Pokemon GO, the majority of legendary Pokemon can only be found in raids that are only around for a limited amount of time, and this means that players will need to pay attention to what legendary Pokemon are active in raids at their current date. On paper, AR Scanning tasks are pretty simple. If players record short videos of PokeStops and send them to Niantic, they’ll get rewards. Powered Up PokeStops simply build on that mechanic by enhancing the PokeStop’s drop rate if multiple players complete AR Scanning tasks. However, in execution, there’s some significant flaws at play. Pokemon GO players don’t always have an easy time completing these tasks because of their social implications, and regardless, many players aren’t enthusiastic about the concept of AR Scanning tasks to begin with....

Swablu, the Cotton Bird Pokemon, appears to be next in line for the event. Although it seems somewhat puny at first, the 400 candies needed to evolve it show its true potential. After evolving into Altaria, this Pokemon becomes a much more formidable Dragon/Flying-type, with the potential for some impressive movesets. Despite appearing on occasion in the wild for players to capture, the upcoming Community Day should allow for the best opportunity this year to capture Swablu and evolve it....

Since they were introduced to Pokemon GO, Solrock and Lunatone have been exclusive to the western and eastern hemispheres respectively. However, Niantic has swapped the two, so Lunatone is now appearing in the western hemisphere and Solrock is now appearing in the eastern hemisphere. This change went live on June 21 as a way for Niantic to celebrate the summer solstice, and should give Pokemon GO players a chance to better fill out their Hoenn Pokedex....

As seen in the tweets below from the official Pokemon GO and Niantic Twitter accounts, the game developer is well aware of the situation, as it is “currently investigating” the reports from players in regards to the login issues. What’s more is that not only is PoGO experiencing problems, but also Niantic’s other augmented reality product, Ingress, is having some troubles, too, with Agents unable access the title. Niantic has yet to divulge what the problem could be in regards Pokemon GO’s login issues, but one can only hope that the company discovers what’s wrong as quickly as possible so that trainers can get back to catching ’em all....

With that in mind, Niantic is delivering a Dragon Week timed research makeup event. Interestingly, the tasks are going to be different this time around, but the rewards for completing each phase will be the same. That means that players are going to get another chance to earn a Deino! The event kicks off later this week, so players should start clearing their calendars and preparing for the upcoming tasks to arrive as soon as Unova Week is over....

Some past Pokemon GO events have featured quite a few unique Field Research tasks, but the World Tourism Day event just has three. Even so, the tasks represent a good opportunity for players to get some Pokemon that are otherwise pretty difficult to catch, and are therefore a bit more exciting than the usual batch of Field Research tasks.
