Niantic CEO John Hanke recently did an interview about Pokemon GO with Taiwanese publication, Business Weekly. According to translations via Google Translate, Hanke told the outlet that “we are planning to develop a new battle mode” and that this “new battle system” will be released at some point in 2018. Hanke didn’t provide a specific timeframe for this new gameplay feature (e.g whether it would arrive in the first half of the year), though the Niantic executive said that it is “very interesting for us”....

The raid cycle in Pokemon GO is likely one of the major reasons that players keep coming back to the mobile game. The most recent raid event involved Steel-type Pokemon Registeel, while the newest one celebrates the debut appearance of legendary Pokemon Tapu Koko in the game. No matter the legendary featured in 5-Star raids, fans of the mobile title likely enjoy the grind and always hope for a chance of a Shiny encounter in each challenge....

Go Battle League is a pretty big shift from the Battle Raid metagame that involves a more linear planning strategy. Although you do need a powerful roster to complete a Battle Raid efficiently, the type match ups never change midway through a Raid. With Go Battle League though, Pokemon GO players need to be ready to face-off against a roster of opposing Pokemon and there may not always be a perfect counter on the squad to take the enemies down easily....

The new Pokemon GO Strange Eggs are white with red spots on them, requiring 12km of walking distance in order to hatch. According to the official event, the eggs will still be obtainable even after this week has ended, so trainers don’t need to feel too pressured to collect as many as they can right now. However, players will have 1/4 egg hatch distance during this time, so it might be good to work through many of these eggs for that reason alone....

The datamine includes code for what appears to be two different Battle Raid-themed events in the near future. This shouldn’t come as too big of a surprise, since the lineup of events once the massive Throwback Challenge event concludes is pretty light right now. Vancouver police report that they recently fined one player after he was caught driving while playing by two Vancouver police officers. The officers issued the man with a $368 ticket for his troubles. The Vancouver police department also took to Twitter to issue a stern warning about playing Pokemon GO while at the wheel....

The fact that Niantic bans IP addresses led one Redditor to develop a theory – was it possible to get a national IP address banned, leading to an entire country losing access to Pokemon GO? The answer: yes. The Redditor, known as pokemongodev, used burner SIM cards to launch thousands of simultaneous scans of the Pokemon GO servers, with all the scans tied to a specific IP address. The IP in question was the national IP address used by cell phone company, Proximus, which is the largest cell phone provider in Belgium....

Now that sites like Pokevision have been shut down, it’s basically impossible to track Pokemon in the game. Players can roam around aimlessly until they luck into a spawn point, but that isn’t quite as exciting as chasing a Pokemon down and seeing the paw prints reduce from three to two to one like we were all able to during the game’s first two weeks. The mobile AR game has some exciting upcoming events with season-specific mechanics and the seasonal spawns are also offering some interesting Pokemon to chase down. For those who are unfamiliar, Pokemon GO increases spawns for select Pokemon each season and each month by biome. That means that players in cities may more likely to run into some Pokemon compared to players in areas that the game recognizes as Forests or Mountains where other Pokemon spawns may be increased....
