Niantic just announced that Pokemon GO is teaming up with the Red Cross to promote blood donation centers throughout the Kanto Koshinetsu region of Japan. Players in this region will notice specially designed PokeStops at each donation center in that region, and players will reportedly receive specialized items for visiting these PokeStops and presumably donating blood in the process. This team-up is an unusual move from Pokemon GO, but it’s rather clever....

In a study from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), researchers looked at the effect playing location-based mobile games, such as Nintendo’s Pokemon Go, had on depressive trends. The resulting paper, published in the Journal of Management Information Systems, reveals that the release of Pokemon Go was accompanied by a significant short-term reduction in depression-related internet searches. LSE Department of Management researcher Aaron Cheng said in a press release from the institution: “With the uncertainty, we are facing every day, mental health plays a vital role in our personal and professional life....

Most of what the event entails has already been revealed by Niantic, like the chance to encounter a shiny Celebi, but dataminers have managed to uncover a couple of extra details that Niantic didn’t mention and images of the new Explorer Pikachu that will be making a special appearance. As seen in the Imgur album below, The Silph Road community member and Redditor known simply as “Chrales” found that Niantic added 3D models for Shiny versions of Wobbuffet, Magmar, Togepi, Togetic, and Magby last night on Pokemon GO’s servers. This indicates that these Shiny versions of all five of the aforementioned Pokemon species – and potentially Wobbuffet’s pre-evolved form Wynaut – should be available in the ARG at some point today....

While the franchise has experimented with Pokemon from other worlds (Clefairy and Deoxys) before, Ultra Beasts are something entirely different. Instead of originating from a different planet, Ultra Beasts come from wormholes that lead to completely different dimensions entirely. Earlier this week in Moscow, Russia, an unauthorized protest rally was held in the city to celebrate the centenary of the Bolshevik revolution. The protest saw hundreds head to Manzeh Square near the Kremlin to protest against Vladimir Putin and call for the Russian leader to resign. 376 people were arrested for the anti-government protests altogether, but among that figure, there were 18 Pokemon GO players who just say that they were trying to catch ’em all....
